Conversations shows that my #XMPP server supports "XEP-0163 PEP (Avatars/OMEMO)" only partially. From my daily usage I can say that OMEMO works fine but avatars are not shown to other users and/or I don't see their avatars. AFAIK, ejabberd is used. Is this a #ejabberd limitation or should I talk to my provider?

@thomas As someone who knows XMPP and MUC's mainly from a end user perspective I wonder why I should care whether it is a MUC or MIX at the end. Can you name some benefits/differences for the end user?

@sl007 @aaronpk My colleague already replied with a apologize for the misunderstanding. https://github.com/nextcloud/desktop/issues/1000#issuecomment-490837089 I agree that the wording of some comments from various participants where not ideal, but I don't think it has anything to do with a particular business model. It is just that we have to prioritize stuff somehow, like everyone else as well. Even if you get paid to work on Free Software, your day still ends after 24h. Meanwhile there is even a pull request which seems to fix the issue.

Wie im Artikel von Digitalcourage ausführlich beschreibt, muss man mehrere Aspekte gegeneinander abwägen und am Ende gibt es viele Möglichkeiten das umzusetzen. Ich sag mal so, wenn ich mich für gesunde Ernährung einsetzen würde, würde ich auch Infostände neben McDonalds und nicht (nur) neben dem Bioladen aufstellen. Wieviel man letztlich damit erreicht kann ich auch nur schwer beurteilen, aber ich denke wir haben einen ganz guten Kompromiss gefunden - 1/2

@tuttle @kirschwipfel Let's take one example which affects all of us here. Imagine everyone would have just said social networks are bad, don't use them. Then we would not have this nice place here. Changing the world in a positive way means to accept the challenges ahead and shape society, technology and innovation in a positive way. You can't achieve this if you refuse progress. Positive change means progress not remaining at status quo.

@tuttle @kirschwipfel I agree with everything you said about the negative effect of _some_ progress. But as said before, I don't think we can stop progress and we shouldn't stop it. We have the responsible to shape progress in a way that benefits the whole society in the long run. Without progress we wont solve the challenges ahead of us as your description of the status quo shows.
