New #mastoadmin here.
I guess there are some public and curated lists of generally banned domains (nazi & such).
Where could I find those? It would kickstart my moderation considerably.

FOLLOW-UP: It's been a day since I tooted this, and this has been boosted 53 times and favourited 44 times. So I guess there could be enough of interested people for this kind of instance to be viable.
But don't hold your breath yet! I'm working on it, but I'm famously slow to realize things. A polyglot instance will open at some point in the future, but for now I can't give any time frame for this.
Stay tuned!
Is there yet a Mastodon instance themed around language learning, multilingualism and polyglot people?
I could be interested in opening one, if this niche is not filled yet.
@mayel Ok, now that I got the data for 1746 instances, I can say that the s factor is about 1.33777, so pretty close to the original approximation of 1.3.
The deviations are perhaps due to the still young age of the fediverse. Expect it to smooth out. But still, expect that the big instances will always dominate.
Data: 200 biggest instances from https://instances.social.

Worried about the dominance of big instances? No, really, this is quite natural.
As an emergent and self-governing system, it could be expected that the size distribution of #Mastodon instances roughly follows Zipf's law.
Does it?
At first you see the top 6 instances, and then the rest. But on a log-log scale the size distribution is close to a straight line, which would be expected from an emergent system.

I'm opening a new site, which is a combo of both thematic and chronological static pages. WordPress is the obvious choice to do this, but I'm always eager to try something new. So what's the hip cms nowadays?
Points to note:
- I am a humanist, not a computerist. I can write markdown in plaintext editor, but I don't want extensive tinkering with code.
- Support for multilingual content out of the box is a big plus.
- I don't care much about bells & whistles.
Has anyone yet witnessed a real-life drinking establishment with the name ActivityPub?

How to make an IFTTT applet to post to a webhook every time a certain hashtag is used?
I find instructions on how to make that with certain accounts (username.atom feed), but as hashtags don't have a similar atom feed (or I haven't found it!), these instructions fail.
All I find is a page per hashtag (eg. https://mastodon.social/tags/caturday), so what should I do with it on IFTTT's side?
@BeechMtn This is such a great feel, when you hang out on Mastodon, your mind is constantly finding new ways to get away from the beasts, and it feels so LIBERATING!
But anyway, what Google services you're using most?
- For web search, try DuckDuckGo
- For Docs/Sheets, try to find an EtherPad/EtherCalc instance (I use FramaSoft's services, but there may be French only instructions, be warned)
- For Drive, install your own NextCloud
Maybe that's a good start :)
Does anyone know, is it possible to start a text only chat (one-to-one AND group chat) in #Nextcloud #Talk without camera and microphone?
I mean, it's an elementary mistake to require camera and microphone for something you don't ever need a camera or a microphone.
But somehow I'm not able to get it working, and it's hard to believe that this bullshit is intentional.
