Here is my motherβs new cat, Oliver. Heβs a demanding sweetie, hopped up on the back of the couch to bonk my head with his and everything.
One friendly walleyed lynx-point Siamese (at least part-Siamese). A great addition to my extended family.
(Image descriptions arenβt working in my browser, unfortunately, but the photos are pictures of an affectionate cat)
About a year after Durham NC protestors took down the confederate statue at the old courthouse, UNC-Chapel Hill protestors have done the same with the confederate statue on campus. (I love the slogan on the hat the protestors stuck on the statue afterward: "Do it like Durham", though that's obviously not the most important bit.)
So pleased that Silent Sam has finally been toppled!

I'm looking for input on some knitting stitch classification and terminology. (Oh, how I wish we had good controlled vocabulary in knitting, but there it is.)

I forgot the hashtags, sorry for the retoot: #knitting #FiberArts
I donβt think I have any eloquence in me. I donβt have a usual sort of knitting blog post, either. But I donβt think this is a time for keeping silent.Β
When other Republican presidents have been elected in my lifetime, Iβve been worried, but not concerned about imminent disasters. This election is not the same. I am scared for the safety of my friends; I am scared for everyone I know who relies on the ACA, Social Security, and Medicare; I am scared for the environment; and I am scared for such fundamentals of our country as freedom of the press. And thatβs just for starters.
Furthermore, white supremacists have been emboldened to attack people and leave disgusting graffiti in places calculated to hurt the vulnerable.Β
Despite being scared, I cannot be quiet about this. I am going to do what I can to keep things from getting worse, and I encourage you to do the same.

About freaking time, even if itβs just going to be a year at a time. Still!

Love doesn't just sit there, like a stone; it has to be made, like bread, remade all the time, made new.

Much of my current yarn work has to do with being a knitting designer, and sharing that for #yarnuary feels a little too much like self-promotion. So I'm going to #showandtell some older projects (knitting and other things).
Several years ago, my kid wanted a Totoro sweater, so I ordered some Peace Fleece and used a Barbara Walker top down sweater pattern.
I embroidered the Totoros on fabric using chain stitch and then appliquΓ©d them on the sweater.

Please be cautious about cross-posting from Twitter. I've been using Mastodon and Twitter both for more than 6 months now, and Mastodon is far less distressing to me. (Other ppl say the same.)
When people cross-post from Twitter without CWs (especially RTs), it starts making Mastodon feel like Twitter.
I don't crosspost, so I don't know what the considerations are, but if you could either crosspost from Mastodon to Twitter, or CW all your crossposts, it would be a huge help.
Welcome, new people!
Ways to find people to follow, aside from reading the local feed:
1. write an #introductions post, and hashtag the things you're interested in. You can't search by keywords, you can only search hashtags.
2. search for hashtags of things that interest you.
2a. your instance will only search hashtags on federated toots, so to find more, go to a large instance and search their hashtags. Edit this URL: https://mastodon.social/tags/knitting
@writerSeth I learned a new trick today: you can use a web browser to do a public tag search on any instance, and if you pick a big instance, you'll get results from everyone theyβre federated with.
Here's one such search: https://mastodon.social/tags/amwriting
And then you can follow people who look interesting from your account.
It might help? Anyway, I think itβs a nifty trick.
Day 4 of #7days7photos . If you want to join in, the rules are in the first post of this thread.
Day 3 of #7days7photos (If you want to do this, tag yourself. See rules at top of thread.)
Day 2 of #7days7photos. Tag yourself if youβd like to try it (rules in my first toot).
Day 1 of #7days7photos
Seven days, seven B&W photos
No humans in the picture.
No explanations.
If you want to do this, go for it! I don't care to tag people myself. (Too many chain letters in the '80s.)
It just occurred to me to mention: since Mastodon doesnβt have advertising, check and see if the people running your instance(s) have some way to send them donations to help keep the servers running.
If you can, of course! But even a little bit now and then can help, if as many people do it as possible.
I am not actually an instance administrator or anything; I just want the lights to stay on. And my dollar a month is insufficient by itself.
