One of my friends' organisation Helpful Pixels will be doing a charity stream *all* weekend. It's a Swedish organisation so some of it might go in Swedish, but if you speak English in the chat people will most likely be able to answer, most (younger?) people in Sweden knows at least basic English.

👁️🗨️ You can add image descriptions! This looks a bit different if you use any of the mobile apps, but in the standard mastodon web interface you just click a textbox on top of the image preview. If you can, adding image descriptions is very helpful to people with visual impairments. Even something as short as "dog" is a lot more than nothing!

👔 This is also where you can find the image crop tool, so you can do them both at the same time!

How can we encourage people to use the image description feature as much as possible without unduly shaming people for whom writing them is too hard? I would especially appreciate your input if you are one of those who have difficulties using the image description feature. - 3/3

Because new people come to fedi all the time it's worth repeating that it's a function that exists that's beneficial to many, but it also comes off as nagging at best, and shaming at worst - 2/3

I know the conversation around image captioning often takes on harsh tones. For many it's a simple thing to do that greatly increases the experience of people who use screen readers, among others, and it's something I'd encourage people to do if they can. But it's also true that writing them isn't very accessible - 1/3

My character in our RPG campaign may have adopted a child?? The child may have accidentally set another character's almost-boyfriend's apartment of fire?? They might get right back to wreaking havoc in the next session because no one in this campaign is sensible??
(But we love them all)
