Social Burn Out

A lot of folks on Masto will follow you back. Others won't. It depends.

There is a lot of social burn out in our lives today and sometimes having our own personalized firehose of tangentially related content is a bit much.

Don't take offense if someone doesn't follow you back. They may be at capacity already.

Boost vs Retweet vs Reshare

Boost are *INTENTIONALLY* setup so you can't comment as part of the boost.

This is VERY DIFFERENT than retweeting and re-sharing.

Gargron has made it clear this is going to remain this way for the foreseeable future.

It forces people to interact directly rather than flinging commentary into the void without meaningful or useful discussion.

Sensitivity is a 'thing' here. As a whole people with Mastodon accounts tend to be sensitive towards others needs/wants/desires/triggers and the like.

You'll see a LOT of posts with Content Warnings (-) or (+) or (~) [neutral] in the title. This helps us avoid triggers, increases sensitivity towards others and HELPS.

We also ❤ sensitive media as well. #FreeTheNipple but be respectful at the same time. We may be progressive but we care too.

What you should not forget is that: public posts are public, private posts may still be public if sent to dishonest servers, DMs are not protected by encryption and rely on both involved instance's honesty.
If you allow everyone to follow you your data may get mined just as on the commercial platforms.
If you have a commercial bot (in disguise) in your followers, it will see and mine those toots.
Just being a federation is no silver bullet to the privacy issue. But ou aren't the product anymore.
