"if you don't like where you are, go make your own instance" is uncomfortably like "if you don't like your neighbourhood, build a house somewhere else" -- it presumes a whole shitload of privilege and resources.

Instead, it's much better to point people to the list of instances, e.g. the list of essentially free housing they can trivially move to. Just think before you say "just do [enormously difficult technical thing] lmao" like it's eating ice cream.

It's funny, though, since mostly you head VG particularly in reference to holiday specials, even though it isn't "Christmas music" it still kind of feels a little bit jolly.

It's like someone is baking with cloves, cinnamon and nutmeg, even if it's not pumpkin pie you still think about pumpkin pie.

Remember folks, if you abandon Twitter, Facebook or Google, it's not a boycott, it's a STRIKE.

Because you're the [unpaid] workers that earn them billions of dollars in capital.

When you don't post, they don't get the benefit of your labour. And when you don't use, they lose money.

Social Media STRIKE days should be a thing.

This is more a note to me than any kind of critique.

If you love someone, tell them. If you like them, say it. Tell them you care. Tell them they're cool or smart, or funny.Don't just sit on those good feelings.

There are a lot of people in the world who without a moment's thought spread hate, loathing, contempt, and destruction.

But so often we are quiet and reserved about our affection, as if it were embarrassing.

So, please, "If you feel something, say something."

User discovery on Mastodon is still a problem.

It's made worse by the "following" link on user cards, which, when the user is on a different instance, only shows users on your own instance. This may make sense technically, but it is bad for users.

Not only is this not intuitive behaviour (there is no indication the list is not complete), it also makes it harder for Mastodon users to find each other, ultimately hurting teh platform.

Let's figure out how to fix this problem.
