No joke here folks. If you are involved in tech I urge you to URGENTLY ESCALATE the news of Symantec SSL/TLS cert distrust.

15 mins of checking in NIghtly and I've found the following are broken:

    oyster.tfl.gov.uk
    southwesttrains
    johnlewis
    pcworld
    currys
    bt
    O2
    ebay

If these everyday names are not on top of it, your ORG is likely not too.

Q: "You mention that WhatsApp isn't safe to use in Kenya. Can you elaborate on why?"

A: "First of all we all know it's not an open source tool. They always say 'end-to-end encryption' so we are not sure if it's *actually* E2EE.. I know some of my fellow journalists whose information has been intercepted through WhatsApp."

For anyone else hyperventilating at the #Firefox testing of the new #IETF standard recommendation: #DoH

You might like to hear about options to still use DoH and NOT #Cloudflare #Mozilla is not about to introduce a Single Point of Failure. It's testing a new standard via one of the early adopting DNS providers.

    Anyways, here's a list of alternative DoH end-points! https://github.com/curl/curl/wiki/DNS-over-HTTPS#publicly-available-servers

If you tried watching #DWebSummit, as I did via the live streams, you might have wanted to throw your device out the window. The Youtube stream was abominable.

HARK! I bring good news tech faces.

Being the Internet Archive and all, they had a strong archival plan in place. Despite Google being all sucky and stuff 🤷♂️ you will still be able to binge watch the sessions. The news has come in that archives are good.

WTF I get so annoyed seeing men edit women in STEM out of their slidedecks, conversations about a sience trend, research project, or data leak.

Men - the default should be AMPLIFY WOMEN

If you don't, you are by your very behaviours - misogynistic.

    * Sincerely your gay friend.

As a #Mozilla Fellow, Hung attended 2017's #Mozfest and showcased her Data Selfies project with a weekend long GALLERY installation.

(only because it was good mind, us wranglers still say no to proposals from fellows and staff!)

This shocking exploration of a social platform (where financial exchanges and messages are all in the open) finds users divulging some truly personal information. Fascinating data interactivity!

    #Mozilla's holding a #MozFest #AMA todayfrom 13:00 UTC over on the birdsite

In the spirit of the rebellion, several of us space wranglers are actually right here in the Fediverse. So ask here too!

Thinking of submitting a session but unsure if the idea is a good fit for MozFest?

Not sure how to make a session “interactive” or “inclusive”? Questions about formats, spaces, scheduling, tech or travel stipends? Curious of the curation process or “Data and You” theme?

Today's the day to get help

@dansup Mozilla's 9th annual MozFest currently has an open call for proposals until August 1. For the 2nd year we have an entire space dedicated to Decentralization. https://mozillafestival.org/spaces#Decentralisation

Might you be interested in adding an interactive session on your learnings of the topic?

Hey I just wanted to personally say THANK YOU to those of you who wrote, called, visited, screamed at their MEP on this whole #Article13 fiasco. We had so many ways in which we could take action yet only a small proportion of us actually did. Proof again that when we pull together, we are strong!

You're real smart and have worldly experience

    SO WHAT?

We created a sytemic value structure based on consumption

    <<that is destroying the planet>>

We taught kids that a cynical view of the world meant they could have anything

    be anybody

    be a rockstar

    live like NINJA!!

Instead the wreckless reality we have built is
    always connected
    meritocratic society
    socially exclusive because of this
    racist because of this
    unicorns are valued
    dbl rainbow memes
    laugh

    Understand?

"Even in its amended version, this proposed directive would require that **websites with large amounts of user uploaded content** add mandatory upload filters. What this means is that websites would be required to have algorithms check **all user uploads** against a database of content and block those that are detected as infringing copyrights from appearing online."
