@alanapost I think one of the most toxic things on social media I see today is just how popular pulling yourself up by kicking others around is. Society reinforces the idea that if you're mean, you must be smart. But that's high school popularity contest bullshit.

I don't mean I'm immune to it.. But I also try to be skeptical of it when I see it, and try to tell myself to do better. How can I use my words to help rather than promote myself at others' expense?

I'm switching laptops, and I didn't copy over all Firefox add-ons and configs from the old laptop.

As a result, this morning I've been browsing the Internet without an ad-blocker.

It's a horrific experience. So much noise. Visual and auditory noise. Newspaper articles are filled with ad boxes. Videos that auto-play to get me to buy things I don't want. Ugh.

uBlock Origin to the rescue, and things are better.

(Don't tell me ad blockers are immoral. I pay for the newspaper.)

I don't like that Signal is tied to my phone number. It prevents me from switching SIMs when I want.

Created a server on Scaleway, used it for an hour, deleted it. Turns out they keep the IP address reserved and bill you for it at a rate that seems about as high as the rate for running a server.

This kind of thing makes me unlikely to want to use your service again, Scaleway..
