Where I lived in the late 90s (suburban Boston) it wasn't fully accepted, and was both a slur and not used in an intersectional sense, so I never got used to it. I shortly thereafter moved out of the US, and things are different out here.

@sean It's problematic for non-queer people to use about us queers, though.

@nev We had those growing up in the South US, too. But they seem to come out later here than there, and for a shorter time.
