There's a bunch of new people here recently, so I think I'll say a few things that will scare off many of the sorts of people that we don't want here

It is the official policy of scholar.social that:

🍍 Nazis should have their speech curtailed at every opportunity
🍍 Supporters of Jordan Peterson or Milo Yiannopoulos—leave now
🍍 There is no such thing as "reverse racism"
🍍 Vaccines don't cause autism, and for that matter, autistic people are equally valuable!

In a rare of example of an un-block, the instance at mastodon.social has been un-silenced from scholar.social, because they have closed registrations

This is in accordance with our domain blocking policy:

A supporter of Jordan Peterson's showed up here today

His account was immediately suspended

Jordan Peterson is an anti-trans activist who has made his name by punching down at the trans community

This instance was explicitly set up to exclude him, Nazis and anyone who would support anti-queer violence

But beyond that, if you see people asking for CW's on a particular subject, add them! It costs you almost nothing and it can be very helpful for maintaining the kind of space we want here

Content Warnings may be new to many of you

Try to think of them as being similar to the Subject line of an email

They're not censorship; they're not a punishment; they're not something that need only be applied in cases where the content is very offensive

They're a piece of meta-data that it is polite to provide and that you're expected to supply in certain cases to help others to decide whether/when to engage with your post

I have added 2 new lines to the Scholar Social Community Standards:

* Satire and activism must make a good-faith effort to punch up. ("Punching up": making jokes or criticism at the expense of those with more power, higher status or greater privilege.)

* No academic/intellectual dishonesty (e.g. accounts for services offering to write academic papers to help student cheat; vaccine denialism, etc.)

I just double-checked and the server for scholar.social has an AMD processor
