Like I saw someone say on twitter recently, "punishable with a fine" means "legal if you're rich." And Brexit is all about the rich shafting the rest of us.

They're HTML tags. Whatever's in the <alt> tag is what the screenreader will read out. Since some web browsers (and apps like Mastodon clients) are now offering alt-text as hover-over text, I guess people are thinking that whatever they see when they hover over an image is what a screenreader will read, but that's not the case. Has to be in the alt-text.

I saw somebody looking for a Medium alternative and suggested Dreamwidth, I'm happy they seem to like it!

I forget how many people don't know about Dreamwidth. If you want old-school blogging, good accessibility, RSS, no ads, no trackers, no Javascript, and good people if you're looking for community, I really can't recommend it highly enough.

Watching linguists being SO HAPPY that they have a reason to explain formants to people is the cutest thing.

Somebody in the pub asked me where I got my "The more I study linguistics the fewer pedantic I become" t-shirt. :) Said her daughter is doing a linguistics Ph.D. Hope she likes the shirt.
