@maiki Aha I see. IMO "malware" is a little disingenuous seeing as it's a property of the OS. Still, if it's any consolation, if an iOS user doesn't consent to push notifications for a given app, the app simply cannot obtain a token and there is no way for the matrix homeserver to push anything to that device. So ultimately an end user has control over that part.
Moved most of my electronic bits and pieces onto my little 800W solar inverter today. It's annoying but not surprising at this latitude - during winter rain I can barely sustain a router and my home server, while in the summer I can have the fridge, my laptop, my radios, a low wattage kettle...
@maiki Haha well there was a plan to give most houses in Australia a fibre connection, which is capable of at least a gig, though residential retail is typically only 100/40 Mb/s. I was lucky enough to get one before the program was stuffed up. This new ISP launtel is getting started and promoting faster services, including buying e.g. high speeds for one day at a time, which is exactly my use case. I emailed them and they offered a freebie.
I've set up the 250 Mbit/s trial with a gigabit Mikrotik router and 802.11ac WiFi and all seems well so hopefully the setup copes with the higher speeds.
In a strange turn of events a local ISP is providing gigabit internet for a LAN party I'm hosting next week. Fibre to the premises is pretty good... so grumpy with the current .au government for messing up the national deployment.
