We nonprofit and movement techies are influenced by (and even take inspiration from) corporate technology.
Especially in #design and #ux circles. After reading No Shortcuts: Organizing in the New Guilded Age I've been thinking about how we should be drawing lessons from organizers more than marketers when it comes to design goals, principles, patterns, etc.
This is an excellent deep dive into worker-owned coops that are trying to contest power and build #socialism.
I love the undraw.co project - a designer illustrated a bunch of use cases for tech projects to be used however people see fit. It even has a color toggle to adjust the illustrations to a particular color scheme.
Are there similar projects out there? I'd love to use and support designers contributing to #freesoftware / #freeculture
I love the video User Liberation on the meaning of #FreeSoftware . I'd like to embed it in the @agaric website. Is there a copy of it on #PeerTube somewhere?
holy shit there is an open source remoters club here in Denver where people cowork together to fight isolation.
And I learned about it through the #fediverse friendly platform gettogether. π π

It is now illegal in Pennsylvania to donate a book to someone incarcerated.
Instead, books must be purchased as ebooks through prison profiteer GTL or ordered through the DOC
This is an attack on gift economies and free speech/culture while expanding the surveillance capitalist, carceral state.
#socialcoop and others, how do you keep track of decisions made? Our coop is interested in improving our process. Our idea right now is to simply have a single wiki page that lists the decisions we've made over time.
Thinking about #mastodon and building dual power to contest the corporate giants.
I'm really turned off by "grassroots groups" that constantly ask me to donate as the only way to support x cause. #nonprofitindustrialcomplex
the #sysadmin friends in my life have been in my thoughts lately. too often we take them for granted and they struggle with isolation and burnout.
how can we support them more?
how can we reinvision that role to be more balanced, integrated, sustainable?
We at #socialcoop should put together a #howto on running a #Mastodon #instance as a #coop
Just updated all my #Drupal clients and side projects to the latest version. If you haven't seen, this update covers a MAJOR security vulnerability. If you have a Drupal site, make sure you get it updated today!
Talking to my kids about the #WVTeachersStrike
me: "So what should parents do now that the strike is entering its second week?"
my kids: "They should ditch work and take their kids to the protest!"
I like that the first conclusion they draw is a #generalstrike βΊοΈ
