I don't know if it's a side-effect of exhaustion or what, but the past couple of weeks computer use has been hard, and every UI seems unfamiliar. I lie in bed and try to remember what it looks like to open a file or write a blog post.
@federicomena His stripes are starting to reappear now :) I'm just glad I can see that the incisions are healing well and that he's had no new swelling or bruising.
Iām getting ready to do more work on Calagator, a platform for community event listings. When we started, we were an alternate to Upcoming (around the time of its sale to Yahoo) and more locally relevant than Meetup. Now many communities share what they're up to on Facebook and have even less control over their data. A lot of my passion for sustainability in FLOSS comes from this project. So ā Iām giving Patreon a shot https://www.patreon.com/calagator
Iām thinking about offering a flat-rate code of conduct consultation again. Iād spend about an hour to read your policies and create a report with my recommendations, and a 30 min call to discuss. Any open source projects or user groups who might be interested?
I'm also looking for more consulting work right now, and I updated my site with some details. Code of conduct implementation, plus research and writing on a variety of things http://lifeofaudrey.com/consulting.html
I'm looking at the payments process more -- if everyone using toot.cat were to sign up and put a small amount in their Brave wallet, for example, the mods would get an email saying they had cash to claim. Pretty easy micropayments! I found the setup process not too hard to follow (and I've never used a cryptocurrency before)
So, one of my business goals this year is to really understand internet sales and marketing, which has led me down some interesting paths. One of them is a sock shop: nekosocks.shop Aside from selling socks, I'm hoping to use it to investigate ad targeting practices, and maybe do some consumer education (like a privacy policy that acknowledges what happens when you're connected to Facebook). Some of these things are just everywhere!
Maybe I can write a Nextdoor bot that posts, "Do you think the campers in your neighborhood would clean up trash if you provided bins and treated them like humans?" on every thread
@garbados the version I usually tell people is that Seattle wants to be SF when it grows up while Portland wants to be Vancouver BC and has nightmares about becoming SF instead
