I've been using Pixelfed a bit recently. There's still quite a few kinks in the interface, but other than that, I'd say it's definitely shaping up to be a legitimate contender against Instagram. Well, at least for the people like us.

Cambridge Analytica is now shutting down, as the Facebook scandal has driven away virtually all of their customers.

It's kind of sad how all the decentralized Internet projects (IPFS, ZeroNet, Tor Hidden Services, etc) all fall under that scary blanket term "dark web".

When regular people here the words "dark web", they don't think "hip new Internet with less central points of failure". They usually think "hub of criminal and terrorist activity".

I guess Overlay Network doesn't sound as catchy in a headline.

If you're mad about Google's self-destructive emails, start using a different email provider! ProtonMail is a good one, as an example.

Even better: take it one step further by setting up your own private email server at home for maximum decentralization.
