Hey, budget engineers, can I really boost my wifi signal with a beer can? Or is this malarkey?
'Cause the alternative seem to be to plop at least some 50 bucks for some gizmo from Best Buy.

@Jo TBH, is any Altered Beast version that great? Even the original is kind of shallow.
I used to be so freaked out by the game when I was a kid. The transformation scene with the fire looked painful and scared me.

Is the rock music movie montage dead? There's gotta be modern examples...

@Fogfriend Funny, I'm about to look at FF1 and see what I find, but I've decided that first I need to implement reading zip files 'cause I'm tired of manually decompressing everything.
Maybe compositing is the reason for Megaman 2 and Zelda to use CHR-RAM? Megaman needs an extra tile on top of his face and Link needs a variable-sized shield on him.

@Fogfriend Yeah, it seems really haphazard! CV2 does use CHR-ROM but I've found CHR-RAM all over the place. Megaman 2 and Zelda 1 also use CHR-RAM.
I don't really understand it, doesn't this mean you had to make much bigger PRG chips?

The 8-byte shift is curious because it makes everything look almost right, so I was worried I had an obscure bug somewhere.

Huh, this was an interesting little adventure in #NESdev.
The tiles in the #Castlevania ROM's PRG (i.e. mixed in with the game code instead of in their separate graphics chip), are exactly shifted by 8 bytes (game instructions don't have to align to 16-byte boundaries of tile sizes).
This made it really difficult to find Simon in there. I didn't even realise what was wrong at first, but now I get it: the high plane of each tile was mixed with the low plane of the next one. Shifting fixed it.

The lesson I want people to take from RMS' jump-before-pushed resignation:
"Your heroes and role models will be held accountable for being a jerk. If you emulate their behavior, you will also be held accountable."
The lesson the problem people will take: "SJW waaaaah!"
I think it's important that we repeat the better lesson.

So yeah maybe everyone else knows about this but it's news to me https://www.fsf.org/news/richard-m-stallman-resigns
Or it *was* news to me until @jalcine mentioned it a few minutes ago

#NESdev progress report:
I've been sneaking work on #Tilerswift whenever #Meximom is asleep or occupied.
My latest thing is that I implemented a little drop down that shows a few standard palettes to pick from.
