My mother and especially my grandmother would have wept with joy to see my husband have coffee with his cabbage rolls, and to hear my son point out that everything needed for a perfect dinner was here. My insides turn to jelly when they squee about the "ethnic" food of my matrilineage.
Dinner discussion topics tonight: - The Shmenges (I am more Shmenge, genetically, than my family,; they have no problem gushing about cabbage rolls and coffee) Video here: https://invidio.us/watch?v=lmSC52Npuq0 - The Band - St. Louis Cardinals pitching legend Bob Gibson
@gemlog thankfully the expired LetsEncrypt certificate and HSTS combination was corrected, and I no longer need lynx to log on. But I felt aged and clever using that workaround. The site was like an office during a snowstorm, when only the people with 4WD vehicles or who could walk to work showed up.
I posted a comment to a website yesterday using the lynx browser. Aside from having to type 'Y' to accept a cookie every fourth or fifth keystroke, and maybe an overcaffeinated keystroke reporting innocuous posts in error, it was successful, as was the experiment of editing said post.
a site I visit daily has an expired certificate, most users can't access it unless they backdate their device's time or use browsers like lynx or IE, or dump their browser's cache. I've forgotten my password for that site, and can't reach a site admin. Requesting an automated password reset doesn't work -- the success message loads, but the email with link to reset doesn't arrive.
@xmanmonk I love my son. I tried telling him Stan Laurel was understudy to Charles Chaplin, and he said "yes! we've been through this SEVERAL TIMES already!" Love him.
I am attempting to recapture the initial mother-infant bond with my son by playing the last ten minutes of "Sons of the Desert" (1933) for him: "Everything you need to know about marriage is in the last ten minutes of this film!"
@tootbrute 'radicalised' == "let down from lies, sorrowfully led to reality." How sad is it that Five Guys reached Britain? Five Guys' burgers are like hockey pucks. Admittedly I've not tried a milkshake.
@gemlog His paternal great-grandfather's first experience with Canadians was at a commando school in Quebec. Even when he met a Canadian female in peace-time, he was "you could kick my grandson's ass. I approve of this match."
@xmanmonk I love that you boosted my toot about my tweet going semi-viral by Canadian standards. My husband didn't get the reference in the tweet. "What matters is that Canadians understood." It was for #MakeABookCanadian and my entry was "Casey and Finnegan's Wake."
Watching "Day of the Locust." Beautiful art direction, the characters are all awful. Wicked film includes an Aimee Semple McPherson character missing from the novel.
I'd like to know who the 21st century Nathanael West is. I hope it's not Gary Shteyngart.
