I find myself thinking what Usenet 3.0 (yes there was a 2.0) would look like. Usenet was the original federated social network. We have all long since moved to the web, though, with 37 different logins to 37 different horribly insecure PHP forums for each different topic we want to discuss. It's a mess. It is ripe for a reboot.

I put the Debian 10 RC on my main workstation, and — knock on wood — it's been rock solid so far. I'm incredibly happy with it. The only major modification I've done has been replacing Gnome with i3wm.

Believe it or not, after 26 years of constant Linux use, this is my first time running Debian. It's a great first impression. If you're on the Debian team, please let me buy you a beer, won't you?

Oh hello, world! It's my first toot from Emacs using mastodon.el. You know what? This is pretty good. It's honestly a FAR better client than 'twittering-mode' ever was on the bird site.

Seeing all this Haiku stuff in my feed is pretty fun. It brings back tons of memories. I was a registered Be developer, had an early production BeBox, and a couple of college friends ended up working for Be, so I haunted their offices quite a bit. Pleasant memories.
