@koosli absolutely, I think it's the way it is because having a place is actually completely optional and I suspect it was an effort to not clutter up the main page that actually included the mandatory stuff.

@koosli yeah there are Reasons for the workflow being that way, as far as I can tell. I think it'd be worth putting it all into one page though.

Never been to moat though probably good.

Every application's "dark mode" looks like an angsty teenager's Geocities page from 1998 to me.

They're fun to have around once in a while but they're also very annoying, loud and destructive in large numbers. They are the Americans of birds.

Last year, when we said goodbye our 15-year-old cat, I swore I wasn't going to have another pet ... then this young man literally walked in off the street and made himself at home.

He has a bell on his collar but it only rings when he chooses. He can move silently through the house, then his bell will give a little ring when he's ready. You turn around and there he is looking at you.

He has issues. He's seen some shit, but that doesn't matter. He is a Good Boy. His name is Meech.

@mgrondin usually the root cause of this is that one of the cats brought the damn thing inside in the first place.

Given how attentive the cats are, and how they've carefully staked out spots around the bottom of a cupboard, I think we have a mouse situation.

@sophistoche well yeah, but also I think it's important for new people to be a bit less hesitant to just mash that follow button to get started. I see a vast amount of users who just seem to expect something to magically happen all by itself and just wander off when it doesn't.

@publicvoit I think it's easy to overload people with ideas, I still think that's the best single thing for new users to do.

My main intention for that post in the long term is pinning it to my profile new users to my instance, so I'm going to kind of assume they've got as far as picking one at that point.

@publicvoit well, I do say it's advice for new users, which is where most people seem to have trouble getting a start.
