but what we'd really need is a account migration that is independent of the #software. kind of like a standard that allows me to migrate from mastodon to #pleroma or whatever

I have no TV for a long time and I also stopped consuming news (apart from tech). News are just bullshit. Now I realize how depressing and useless all this information is most people stuff into their brains daily. Confront me with news on the radio now and I almost freak out because I feel it's so disgusting. 🤨

while #GNU and the #FSF certainly has given us many useful things the overall strategy has kind of failed. just look at https://savannah.gnu.org for example. it all just doesn't gain enough traction to really make a difference. nobody uses the GNU OS. is there even any piece of recent GNU software that is filling more than just a niche?

there's so much we can do with #mastodon instances. I believe if we do it right we can make the world a better place by giving people a way to connect with each other that was not possible before. for that we need to bridge online and offline. don't just put up a server, but think about using your instance as a way to connect people in real life and bring new or existing communities together.

you know, it doesn't matter if we use #pleroma or #gnusocial or #friendica or #mastodon etc. (are there more we can connect with?). the important thing is that we can communicate with each other. therefore we should rejoice over every additional server that springs into life, no matter what software it runs. whenever the media hypes something that is part of the #fediverse, it's good for all of us. but maybe we need a new name for the whole thing? I feel like "fediverse" doesn't cut it.

So Google detests the AGPL license: https://opensource.google.com/docs/using/agpl-policy/ going as far as to demand this:

"Do not install AGPL-licensed programs on your workstation, Google-issued laptop, or Google-issued phone without explicit authorization from the Open Source Programs Office."

So to degooglify the internet everyone should choose AGPL for open source projects :)

#emacs eshell is my main shell now. I use it with John Wiegleys em-smart.el which emulates Plan 9's 9term and added #bash completion, because seriously I can't work without that.
