    well IIRC beam.pro got it down to 8s even without their FTL magic...

    do you think the overhead of creating a torrent would be that high, even with small piece size like 64kB?

    @mray yeah but the thing is, it's not a normal torrent.
    It's an ever-growing torrent, with the seed adding new pieces at the end all the time.

    The seed doesn't want to send one piece more than once (because bandwidth costs), and needs to send each piece to a different peer, so that they can trade between each other.

    But because of that, each peer receives pieces in different order, so if you have n peers, then each of them will need a buffer of n pieces.... unless the network is very quick... yeah maybe this can be made faster

    This quote is a great example of how badly the propaganda term "#IntellectualProperty" has confused people about what #copyright is and how it works.

    This, plus console was used only by admin... or so I've heard.

    I'd imagine the console would be in /etc/securetty, display bootlogs and bootloader prompt, etc.

    @leip4Ier well I can imagine kids randomly copying money and then getting in trouble... maybe even on a scale that would make enforcement impractical.

    I don't approve of DRM like this, but I understand why the governments would do it.

    @leip4Ier well, it looks close enough, I guess you could use such printed money to fool a shop assistant at a local grocery, or sth... I've only seen one shop with UV lamps for checking money authenticity, and never seen them use those lamps.

    @leip4Ier
    IMO communicating over text is definitely different than talking. Not better, not worse, but has some pros and cons.

    As you've already said, it doesn't make you anxious, which is one
    advantage. Another is that people are not expected to reply immediately, and have an option to think twice before sending a message.

    OTOH, text doesn't convey non-verbal information. And while some people (probably me) fail to notice a lot of non-verbal information even when talking face to face, most of the time it's at least possible to tell if the person is joking or angry.

    A few years ago, I remember using a lot of emoticons with very specific meaning to convey some of that information, and it worked really well, but it looks like it kinda faded these days...

    Until 4 years ago I too lived in the middle of nowhere. I met my best friends on the internet. Because, it's indeed hard to find someone with common interests nearby.
