    hey please spread this around.

bumblebees are going extinct and i think now is a time to let everyone know that pesticides aren't the way to go. there are infact alternatives to pesticides that are cheaper and safer.

like caffeine! bees love the smell of caffeine, and it doesn't hurt them. however every other dangerous bug is repulsed by the smell and wont eat your plants.

it's that simple! it's that fucking simple! all you have to do is get some coffee beans or whatever. put it in a cup. put some water in it. put it in a spray bottle. boom! that's all!

please spread this around to anyone you know i refuse to let bumblebees go extinct

a friend of mine who spends a LOT of his time picking up plastic waste from parks, rivers, streets, etc. had a good idea. He decided to photograph the non biodegradable waste and tag companies on social media with it. So if he finds a plastic Subway cup, he tells Subway about it with the message "is this yours?" I dig this because it's not something that blames the consumer. It puts the blame where it belongs: on the producer.

Ok. You've probably seen the news: we are gearing up for an honest-to-goodness ideological war in 2020. Propagandists, homegrown and otherwise, are already gearing up to sow discord and confusion on the left.

And, um, bad news: you and I are basically the remaining counterculture. If people at our level don't prepare themselves to fight, we're probably not going to win.

Start thinking about it NOW. For instance, it wouldn't hurt to get an elevator-pitch sized case against Trump into your head. Personally, I'm thinking of starting a list of undeniable Trump "fun facts" we can use to steer forum threads back on track. (e.g.: "Hey, isn't Trump ALREADY a known fraudster because of that Trump U thing?" "Hey, didn't Trump's own biographer say he's probably a Kremlin agent?") (I know, the base is hard to crack and never admits it's wrong. We're not _aiming_ for the base.)

Next: be wary of anything you see that turns you against a fellow Trump opponent. Remember that we KNOW FOR CERTAIN some of that is deliberate sabotage. Save your ire for the opposition-- and even then, think ahead to how we can draw them into the fold if Trump is ever properly defeated and humiliated.

And most importantly: for fuck's sake, don't despair. I grew up with the sincere expectation we would all be reduced to radioactive ash by the time I was 20. Instead, the Big Bads collapsed. Granted, they came back in a new form, but... here we are, still breathing.

This is a new era. We are the FIRST. GENERATION. EVER. to face this kind of targeted memetic infiltration online. You don't even know what we're capable of. The memetic immune systems we develop now could protect American humanists and progressives for generations. Quit fixating on a doom that will only become truly inevitable *if* we keep fixating on it.

Nobody here wants to be dead. Nobody here wants anyone else to be dead.

Sometimes, when someone gets overwhelmed by strong emotions or their body's needs haven't been met, they'll post that they want to be dead.

And I'm going to tell you something that you might not expect me to say: Please continue doing that.

If you post your bad feelings, your friends get a chance to comfort you. We can help you work through your problems.

If you stay silent, you will only hear more silence. Nobody can help you if nobody knows you need help.

If nothing else, posting and reading the responses allows you to stall for time for your brain to get unstuck.

I'm currently calling in all favors to find a way to get an asthma inhaler in the next few hours. If anyone can help me (one prescription costs $80 for the phone call and $70 per inhaler that I am going through in about a week) either with this immediate need or also with getting my patreon goal met so I am less likely to end up in the hospital again because I can't afford my meds that keep me breathing - please do.

one of the hardest things to learn as a depressed former Gifted Kid™ is that half-assed is better than nothing. take the 50%, 40%, even 20% job. scrubbing your face is better than not taking a shower at all. picking up your clothes is better than never cleaning. nibbIing on some bread is better than starving.

DO THINGS HALFWAY. NOW YOU'RE 100% BETTER OFF THAN YOU
    WERE BEFORE.

    reply by redheadhatchet:

One of my college professors used to say "anything worth doing is worth doing poorly." I didn't understand that for years because I didn't do anything poorly. I couldn't do anything poorly. I had to Do Everything Perfectly.

But brushing your teeth for 30 seconds is better than not brushing them at all when that 2 minutes seems exhausting. Doing ten minutes of yoga is better than 10 minutes of sitting when 30 minutes of cardio sounds impossible. Changing my clothes is good when a whole shower is impossible. Standing on the porch for a few minutes is worth it after being in the house for three straight days because l don't have the energy to go anywhere.

Anything worth doing is worth doing poorly... because doing it poorly is better than not doing it.

"Finding yourself" is not really how it works. You aren't a ten-dollar bill in last winter's coat pocket. You are also not lost. Your true self is right there, buried under cultural conditioning, other people's opinions, and inaccurate conclusions you drew as a kid that became your beliefs about who you are. "Finding yourself" is actually returning to yourself. An unlearning, an excavation, a remembering who you were before the world got its hands on you. - Emily McDowell
