We had a Video Toaster in my high school AV Club. It had one of my favorite video editing transitions: the "silhouette of a group of people having a dance party from one end of the screen to another" wipe. https://mellified.men/media/ek6SQZUE-KMEKBXW6vI

reasons to carpool with my dad: I save about $26 every day I do it
reasons not to carpool with my dad: I'm in the car with him for half an hour and then he asks me apropos of nothing "What does milf mean?"

Please hold, your call is important to us. So important. It is like a dewfall in the desert, slaking our thirst. The only subsistence we've known in years. Oh sweet caller, merciful caller, terrrible, terrible caller. If only you knew. If only you knew.

One of the first episodes of Law and Order to deal with the Internet was the 1995 episode Rebels. In the episode, Jerry Orbach's character is reading what's a post from a biker bar BBS and there's a quick cut to the screen.

If you freeze frame that shot of the screen, you see that at some point whatever intern was asked to write the post quickly got bored and started just describing their surroundings stream of consciousness style https://mellified.men/media/ZlMNsKZpebOrbqXlGPQ

I used to be an education reporter, which meant I interviewed a lot of teachers. When They Might Be Giants came to our town and I went to the concert, I recognized about 2/3 of the audience as local school teachers.

So after 9 months on Mastodon, I really like it here. I wrote about my experience and some advice for new users over on The Outline https://theoutline.com/post/2689/mastodon-makes-the-internet-feel-like-home-again

Hey everyone, I'm working on a guide on how to thrive on Mastodon. If youve been here for more than three months, I'm curious if you would have any advice for a new user to get them to stick around and not bounce off.

All comments welcome, feel free to boost.

Final verdict on Sia: Some of these songs actually have catchy compisitions. The one I posted above, "Ho, Ho, Ho" has a very bright brass section. But each song has lyrics that, when they're not inane and repetitive, are vaguely threatening.

Final verdict: No reason to get unless you like Sia or the feeling that someone in the room is planning to murder you.
