I installed Gajim over the weekend on Ubuntu and it came with the OMEMO plugin, I didn't have to install it separately.

Movim is the first #XMPP client that supports #message reactions!

AFAIK OMEMO is a core plugin, so doesn't use that installer.
So I think it could be disabled and you'd still have OMEMO.

Which does support OMEMO out of the box.

I think Pidgin is largely abandonware.
There is however an OMEMO plugin like you mentioned: https://github.com/gkdr/lurch
A better choice than Pidgin would be Gajim: https://gajim.org/

does anyone have a simple manual on #XMPP for the people who don't even know how email works? with a FAQ on questions like "can I use my email", etc?

Oh my goodness I've just learned a thing about The Matrix that causes it to make a lot more sense: In the original script the humans were used as neural network compute clusters by the Machines and as a crucial component of The Matrix itself.
Which is why humans who were aware of the simulation could control aspects of The Matrix - their minds were part of its foundation.
Unfortunately the test audiences had trouble understanding this concept so the studio changed the human role to "batteries".

Thanks, yes I know you were joking :)
I know Dele, who works on Pade and he has contributed some 3rd party community plugins:
https://github.com/conversejs/community-plugins
For some reason he has been reluctant to make contributions to the core repo, but since the code is already there, it shouldn't be too much work to merge it into core.

I'm reminded of "Year of Linux on the desktop" memes.
XMPP is used all over the place. Fortnight (200m users), Twitch, Google Cloud Print and many others.
The issue is that XMPP as general "federated social network" has failed to gain traction, so people think the protocol is "dead".

The ancient Greek word for "bear" was Ξ¬ΟΞΊΟΞΏΟ.
The Arctic is named after the animal; it's the place where bears are.
Naturally, when you find a place at the opposite side of the globe from the Arctic and where there are no bears, it's the anti-Arctic - in other words, Antarctica.
So the Arctic is Bears Place, and Antarctica is Not Bears Place.

Such a great article on rewrites. Sometimes you do a rewrite and it pays off. Took me a while to realize that for replacing Hydra in Nix.

Link Mauve has been doing some work on adding Audio/Video via WebRTC to Converse.js.
I'm personally not working on it and don't have any plans to.

@DwdDave@twitter.com @mrjamesob@twitter.com @JimMFelton@twitter.com As voters I think you need to look at the candidates for MP & ask "is this someone I'd trust to spend 35% of my salary wisely?". If they've previously shown propensity to dodgy expenses, or voting to appease newspapers or party, don't encourage them by voting them in again.
