I want to pay this kid because I am benefiting from his work, but without a grant, it would be out of pocket (I applied for a grant so that I can pay him and others like him).

The people who can afford to work for free are people who are privileged enough to not have to work several dozen hours each week for money to support themselves.

Stop reinforcing this privilege.

LB: I trust my admins, but I would not want them to have my personal info, even for ICE reasons. In general, I think the fediverse puts too much trust in admins - reducing privacy between user and admin can have disastrous consequences, even if it's useful in a few emergencies. Admins can go bad - I once did (on a different network, as a result of harassment).

Do you ever feel the sun on your face when you're sitting at your desk and think about how it's radiation from a star that literally had to travel 8 minutes through space at the speed of light, filter through the atmosphere, then through your window, and it STILL feels warm? And meanwhile you're like... too busy to pay any attention, somehow.
