I own and like RimWorld that I originally backed on Kickstarter but I've been taking my distances with the game since the creator went full GamerGate.
Thanks for the Kingdom suggestion, I forgot about this video game series! -

Thank you for the suggestions, however they don't really fit the "indirect orders" category.
About your individual suggestions, I haven't played Humankind yet, but I extensively played all the Civilization and Endless games before and the reviews are mixed.
I own Rise of Industry and I played it for a little while before uninstalling it but I forgot to note why I didn't stick with it.
I'm also a big fan of the XCOM series, back to the very first game published in 1994, the UFO series, and the modern reboots, but I haven't mustered the courage to start a XCOM 2 game yet given the time commitment it requires. -

There are exactly 2 spots in Oceanhorn that are odd difficulty spikes: a lever/moving platform puzzle which difficulty to pull off reliably puts it miles away from any other in the game, and a shoehorned game-ending usable item that's dropped in front of you just before the first stage of the final boss, and is meant to be used at a precise moment during the second phase, ending the boss and the game.
Everything else is pretty much where you expect it to be, the optional items are indeed optional, the random drops by jars or enemies match what you currently need (you'll find more heart when you are hurt, mana potion when you've used spells, bombs and arrows after you've used some of your inventory), and the world map is small enough with a displayed completion level for each location that enables to quickly identify the next steps of your journey and/or the locations to revisit later. -

I ended up buying Before We Leave on Steam, so far it's very cute but I'm not impressed yet. I'm not sure it has to do with the game itself though. -

Thank you for the continuing suggestions, I never could get into Dungeons 1 and 2 because they were too puzzle-y, the 3 was closer to my heart but then War for the Overworld was so much more fun to me that I didn't spend much time with it beyond the campaign. -

Ah thanks, I believe I have it in my Epic Game Store wishlist. It reminds me of the upcoming video game Terra Nil in a similar theme but different mechanics. -

Thanks, I played it when it was put on Free Play for a week-end, but I found the production chains to be too repetitive given the few alternatives for the critical resources. -

Hi folks, I'm looking to play a non-Early Access strategy/management #videogame with indirect orders like Dwarf Fortress or Tropico, but I don't care about any sandbox aspect, I'd like it to be story-driven and/or level-based like Frostpunk or EndZone: A World Apart.
Any idea? -

#videogames #MiniReview I just binge-played Frog Detective 1 and 2 by @gracebruxner and while both are very short, the dialogs were hilarious (at least to me) with no filler. Looking forward to Frog Detective 3! -

#videogames #MiniReview Oceanhorn: Monster of Uncharted Seas is a shorter Finnish indie take on The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker. Clunky at times, uneven boss fights, but I had to look up a guide only thrice over my 9 hour playthrough so it's pretty good for me with adventure games. -

Video games, if you don’t have a separate currency for cheap consumables and expensive permanent upgrades, I will never ever buy consumables not to delay the purchase of the upgrades. -

I'm so deep into second-hand watching British murder mystery TV shows that I'm now firmly convinced British kids are taught at school to keep a mental schedule of their whereabouts up to 48 hours prior, including precise coming and going times and lists of other people present. -
