@cwebber I've found that having both positive and negative constructive criticism can help. Not just "I don't like this, you should change it", but also "I do like this. You should keep it the same or expand upon it." :/

Hmm. Does anyone know if a modular package architecture has been considered for masto? Like, so that people who want trending hashtags on their servers can have them, and people who don't want them can avoid them? :/

@reinderdijkhuis Eh, where the people who make the culture are, maybe. The culture itself is much more vague and diffuse, it can be found all over. :/

@reinderdijkhuis Eh, sorta? Your house value can go up or down based on who lives nearby, yes, but thats measuring things very indirectly. :/

@StuC Oh, I mean a lot more than IP. Some IP might count, but I mostly meant the stuff that's so vague that nobody would be sure how to even count an intellectual property claim on it. Like, imagine trying to put an IP claim on the idea of capital. Even if the courts agree, how would you count such a thing? :/

@Triplefox Honestly I'm fine with profitability as a feedback, I'd just like it to take more externalities into account. Though, I've been thinking of another system that might somewhat change things? The idea is that, like capitalism, it's a collection of relatively independent corporate entities - but these ones operate under very different rules.

Now, I'm not sure what the value of all this was, but I suspect it was greater than 0. And yet, it's invisible. It;s not reflected in any kind of official statistic. How much of the wealth of our society is invisible like this? :/

Thus, depending on where you live, you might invisibly gain access to vast amounts of capital without having to lift a finger. And thats not even taking into account the capital that a person can accumulate themselves. Like, growing up, my parents had a decent family library of old sci-fi, and I read a ton of it. Alan Dean Foster, Mercedes Lackey, Larry Niven, Andre Norton, David Brin, Anne McCaffrey, David Weber... I could go on.

That is to say, capital that takes, not physicaly form, but form mainly within the minds of human beings, either individually or together? Like, if you want to build a rocket, living in a society where people are familiar with the idea of rockets and know how to build them is very helpful. Being able to go buy a textbook and draw upon that knowledge is helpful. Being able to hire rocket scientists without sinking the entire investment to create rocketry as a science is helpful.

Hmm. I've been reading Thomas Piketty's "Capital in the 21st Century" lately, and unsurprisingly, its got me thinking about capital. That is to say, resources that provide regular value, usually in the form of money. Land you can collect rent on, a factory that produces goods, etc, etc, all the way down to the knives you keep in your kitchen that provide regular value by helping you cut stuff. And It's got me thinking - Is there such a thing as cultural, intellectual, or memetic capital?
