Oh my gosh I just saw on my TL that it's almost solstice. Which means the light begins returning here in the Northern hemisphere. Which means incrementally longer days... slowly ... slowly... but there will be more light! Every year I get happy about this.

And every year come February I feel like it's taking too long.

But then March is good. And April!

I haven't done a lot of retreating from the universe in my life, but this past week I found it really a needed and restful thing to do. My book wasn't about current events, I didn't have to talk to it, and it didn't care if I felt awful and put it down so I could stare at the wall.

Attended an event today around the 75th anniversary of the internment of Japanese Canadians during WWII (at my institution, Uni of British Columbia). Panel was about law and exclusion.

A panelist said once you reach the point of talking about security vs rights (to privacy, freedom, etc), you’re usually talking about “our” security vs “their” rights. And at that point, you’ve already lost something important.

This struck me & am still reflecting on it. We are there. What all have we lost?
