@djsundog had a long stream of posts on the evening of 17 december reminding the feeds of the time before all these specialized machines and brutalist architectures we bring into our homes thinking we are sleek and modern.
this got me thinking about my current relationship with my systems.
currently the system i use everyday is an asus x556uq which came with a 500g ssd and i modded before even turning on to have a second one where the cd-rom used to be.
It is a dual drive/dual boot with win10 on one side and ubuntu studio 17.04 on the other.
I haven't booted into win10 for 8 months but i also don't plan on removing it either.
this system uses cords and dongles to add components like the old commodore 64 that i used to create a table top RPG on back in the day and play endless video games and go on my first BBSs.
It is truly the first system i have used in twenty years of making systems and deploying them (for myself or the pc-bang i used to run) that I feel i truly own.
if i want a feature, i install it.
if i don't, i remove it.
if something doesn't work, i fix it or work around it (if there is no fix)
it is mine and it does what i want, not what someone else wanted.
sorry for the extended post, but if you have your own instance you might as well be allowed to make posts as long as you like.
[thats what i learned from a dragon]
