Train derailed on its inaugural journey on a new high-speed bypass route. This is a pretty big setback for bringing high-speed rail to the pacific northwest.
@SirBemrose I heard my Seattle co-workers chattering about a train derailment. I didn't realize it was a "high speed" train route.
@PhoneBoy "High speed" in this context is 80mph. Much faster than the freight lines along the Sound, but it's no Shinkansen.
Carving truly high-speed rail routes is tough in a place with as much geography as the PNW.
@SirBemrose it's "high speed" compared to taking I-5 :P
@PhoneBoy Especially now. There's a train sitting on I-5!
@SirBemrose doesn't do anything for the "trains good, planes bad" narrative, though.
