I saved this beer for today: Backwoods Ba$tard by Founders brewery. It's classed as a "Scotch" ale. I live in Scotland and have never tasted anything like this, it wasn't pleasant; it was like a pint of dark ale that somebody poured a large dram of whisky into. The whisky taste simply dominated this beer and made it quite undrinkable

@kevie interesting… maybe their marketing people thought "ok, tastes a bit weird but we'll sell a lot of it anyway"
-
'Scotch' style ale seems to be high alcohol and malt heavy

@jezra malted barley is traditionally used in Scottish beers as hops don't grow well in our wet environment, so that makes sense. But our beers are generally quite low (3-5%). Anybody drinking 11% beer here would generally be regarded as a jakey (alcoholic, down and out). This is not one I'd recommend.

The 'scotch' styles I've had were usually over 7% and too sweet for my taste. Fortunately my local craft brewery keeps their recipes fairly traditional and doesn't try to make an extreme version of any particular style of beer.

@kevie I quite like that one. It's a scotch heavy, but better!

@kat you do like a strong tasting beer. Whatever your drink if choice is I hope that you have an excellent time over the holiday season 😀👍

@kevie best wishes! Xxx
