   a thing i'm learning trying to pitch mastodon to friends: you can lead a horse to water but you can't make it follow anyone or have any meaningful interactions

   i feel like so many people have gotten so used to having content just laid out in front of them they've forgotten what it was like to actually go out and make internet friends before the term "social media" was a thing

   i don't know that there's a solution here and tbh I'm not sure I want there to be one? i frankly love the level of interaction here and it's frustrating to see people complaining about self-inflicted problems but you can't force someone to interact

      @ebeth maybe the offer of an onboarding wizard, even a rudimentary one which suggests a few local and federated users based on recently posted hashtags or something @Gargron

      In facebook (no longer using it) some people actually get creeped out if you visit their profile and view/like old photos they shared for everyone to see.
