RT @emilyy_nicolee@twitter.com: If any millennial ever gets called a snowflake again, just remember that there are grown ass adults, baby boomers, who are losing their fucking SHIT over having to now pump their own gas in Oregon.

    No, I️’m not kidding.

    Yes, it’s fucking hilarious.

To be fair, you need to have a very high IQ to enjoy filling up gas.

@Joshywooful WTF? With "pump their own gas" is meant that at the gas station they have to handle the gasoline tap by themselves? What is so complicated about this? (Besides when you are disabled, of course)

This really sounds weird from an European point of view 😉

@heluecht @clacke In the US states of #Oregon and #New_Jersey, it is forbidden by law to pump one's own gas. Gas stations have attendants who get paid to do that. (It was standard practice across the country until around #1977 - #1978, but as far as I know, not legally required.)

Maybe #OR's law was recently changed.

@heluecht Yes, it is weird. I think it was an attempt to maintain jobs that would have been lost. However, in the 1970s, a gas station attendant would also check oil, coolant, transmission fluid, brake fluid, and tire pressure. For a small fee, they would fill any of those things up to the recommended level. In my few months in #NJ, I did not observe that happening.

@lnxw48a1 No, that would not happen. I was born and spent my first 9 years in NJ. The only thing gas station attendants did was pump gas. I can't speak for Oregon though.

Oh, ok. I thought there was a new law forbidding pump assistants, which I thought would be weird, but if they simply removed a law making them mandatory, then I'm all for it.

@Joshywooful Maybe I'm just weird, but I actually feel really weird when someone else pumps my gas the odd time I'm in some random small town where that's still the norm.

Those people are absurd. (Also, if the gas station is full of dangerous vagrants, maybe the staff shouldn't have to pump your gas in such dangerous circumstances.)
