it's all about body temperature and mindset
if you can't maintain an appropriate body temperature, you got a real problem and seek aide [note: YOU GET TO DETERMINE APPROPRIATE TEMPERATURE ]
if you are physically warm and not at risk for frostbite, etc then it becomes a mental fight
i worked for years outside in north-east wisconsin delivering pizzas in conditions where it was only other fools like me and snow plows on the road [and sometimes the plows weren't out either] and my first rule is:
IF YOU DON'T NEED TO BE OUTSIDE: DON'T BE OUTSIDE
[need is employment, health and safety of you or others, and basically important shite. ]
second rule is a mindset rule:
DON'T SHOW OFF.
Don't worry about looks, speed, time things take, etc. Staying warm and not getting hurt or in an accident are more important than anything else.
rules three (last rule):
your state of mind is an important component to survival. imagining everything as end of the world big event doesn't help you. The only weather report you need is the temperatures for the next few days and precipitation predictions -- everything else is noise.
enter your location and the word weather in a search engine and it should list all the info you need on the top line in a handy picture.
that's all you need -- anything else will cut into your resolve.
FEAR IS A MIND KILLER
don't dwell on anything but the next few hours -- it's all we can hope to control anyway
remember:
ANYTHING IS SURVIVABLE IF YOU KNOW IT WILL END
it's when you think it will never end when the fear and anxiety takes root
