    Something that disturbs and annoys me a bit is that when mathematics is presented to a wider audience it's always shit like this http://chalkdustmagazine.com/blog/the-mathematics-of-brewing/ or "group theory in the bedroom". There's nothing wrong with presenting applied stuff but mathematics is so beautiful and interesting in itself even without applications and "the mathematics of $something".

    I don't have any constructive ideas on how to do it better but surely there must be a way to do it "right". I guess it's a stupid little pet peeve of mine.

      @rtsn as a person who never found mathematics interesting but spent hours to self-learn the basics of cryptography, let me tell you that applied mathematics is _way_ more interesting for those who do not possess a "mathematical mind" than plain, crude formuale
