I was recently diagnosed with GAD and one of my excellent meds has an interesting and beneficial side-effect; I've become so much more interested in people, both in cyber- and meatspace. I really want to interact with people. This new to me. Before I kind of saw other people as "cold agents" which I was forced to deal with every now and then (i.e. I was a true asshole). Life is so much more joyful with other people in it. Sorry for perhaps oversharing and maybe being a little too personal for this medium.

I think it's awesome you shared, thank you. :-) And now I have to look up what GAD stands for..
-
@einebiene thank YOU. :) generalized anxiety disorder i.e. I'm a pro at worrying and having anxiety all the time but meds helps a lot.
-
Ahh, I do know about anxiety but I couldn't place those letters. I don't have much personal experience with anxiety but I'm bipolar myself, so I do know about "being different". I'm on meds, too.
-
@einebiene Yeah, it sucks. I guess we all have our demons. :) Does your meds work well for you? If I may ask, that is.
-
They do help with some problems, not so much with others. And the do really have nasty side effects, so sometimes I hate my meds, but at the end of they day I decide to take them, I'm convinced I would be worse off without them.
-
@einebiene @rtsn every time i read something like this i'm reminded that all of you are more than a friendly avatar/account on a server. THX

@einebiene Medications are such a difficult thing because of weird cost/benefit that comes with it. "I feel shit if I take them, but I feel even worse without them" in my experience this seems to be quite common. I can't help to feel that meds for mental problems are in a kind of primitive state compared to other medical treatments. In that sense I'm very lucky that I got stuff that really works well for me.
-
Yeah, the cost/benefit is really weird and it it is so hard to explain to someone who never experienced stuff like this. Like there are words missing from the languages. And yes, I think you are lucky :-)
-
@rtsn @einebiene mental health is really under investigated because till some years ago it was almost a taboo, and treatments have to be ...
-
@rtsn @einebiene ... fine tuned that almost looks like is a trial and error system, every person is a world.
-
yeah. For bipolar disorder I once read that it is a human condition, for example lab rats do get cancer but not bipolar disorder. So all the meds that are there where chance findings, like someone noticed epilepsy medication helped the bipolar disorder of someone who had both conditions. So I don't expect to get better medication some day.
-
@einebiene also something is good for you but for other person with the same problem is not, brain is a personal chemical factory
-
yeah, you're rigth
-
And I'm glad those meds seem to make it better for you. :-)
