@cj @jcgruenhage I think that the mass adoption of MIT/BSD in the go ecosystem is a proof that GPL probably hurts more than it helps when it comes to adoption of software by large entities. Big entities give back patches out of pragmatic reasons, engineers don't want to rebase atop a 10k line diff every time a new version is out. FreeBSD and golang is a great example of this in action. it's okay to have proprietary forks, it's actually probably desirable as they can pay people to improve it.
