@lain When I combine it with a mean household income, looks like quite a lot of people in the US can afford at least an average apartment.
(Now, it's a different thing from an individual income, but far more representative, you don't get to pay two rents if you live with a partner. That's another bad hole in the picture.)

@pony in the end, it's not really surprising that an average household can pay the rent for an average apartment.
Either way, I don't even disagree that housing is expensive, just with the way the OP image tries to argue for it.-

@lain I mean, it probably doesn't make much sense because US got quite a high home-ownership rate, nation-wide averages in such a big country are probably not very important, federal minimum wage is just a baseline for local regulation, etc. Like, yeah, it's a poor way to propagate the message (that I also have no problem agreeing with, in a sense).
