    As the same promises got made again and again and it became more apparent they weren't going to be honoured people became more and more hostile about it.  It also seemed pretty apparent they only wanted certain people to be privy to the discussions around it.  And yeah, I wasn't one of them.

      I was deeply frustrated by the whole thing because it had the potential to iron out a lot of the problems with disparate implementations and became basically just ostatus with AS2 instead of proto-AS so that some people can get some sort of quasi-official stamp of approval.

        What's worse is that most of the functionality ostatus grew over time from the original specification to meet the needs of Identica and the fediverse at large was largely jettisoned from the official specification.  I understand that much of it was modules/plugins but so was ostatus.  If there's frequent demand for something as an additional functionality it really should be considered for adoption into the central specification.
