      @strypey I read a novel "Daemon" a few years ago that started off like that. Don't recall the author's name, but the book is laying around here somewhere.

        @bobjonkman 'Daemon' is by Daniel Suarez but that's both much more recent and much more serious than the novel I'm thinking of
