@ellietistjames Interesting story. I think it can be dangerous to listen too much to your elders in this matter though. Because they worked in a different time. And probably also in a different industry.

Before concluding that "this is how things are" I would check around with other people in other departments and in other companies. Then you might learn that things are better elsewhere, or you may learn that it's the same way everywhere for a reason.
