If you saw buildup to the purchase of a new soldering iron, an explanation follows. For everyone else, that's the context of the followup post(s) in this thread.

This is how it happens with the family, too.
One time while I was visiting #sonOne, we were talking about some Cisco certification training he was doing. As he mentioned it, he showed me his equipment: one router, one managed switch, one SMB-level unmanaged switch. I pulled out my phone, went on Amazon, and ordered five-piece kit with a mini-rack. He didn't notice, but his friend David did.
A few days later, I got an e-mail saying that "some kind benefactor" had spent money he shouldn't and thanking the benefactor for the equipment.

Shortly after #sonTwo was married, his wife got lost on her way home from work because her cellphone battery was discharged so the GPS satellite navigation wasn't available.
During our daily call, he told me the story. I drove to a nearby retailer and purchased a carrier-unlocked cellphone and a separate Garmin unit. The next day, on the way to the hotel after work, I shipped the devices to him.

#sonTwo called me (as he does almost every day). This time, he was telling me that his wife's educational program was being disrupted by her #Kindle's inability to install whatever DRM-laden edubook reader her campus required.
I was driving to the hotel after work, so I stopped at an office store, bought a low-priced tablet with a recent version of #Android on it, drove to the #UPS store and shipped it.
A few days later, she was able to study during her breaks at work.
(And I understand that if you were not in the right place at the right time, you won't know what I'm talking about "big picture", even though the examples I'm posting are clear and understandable.)
