Here's a tip for using cookies on your site:

Don't just tell the user you're collecting data on them without giving them the ability to opt out. And don't make it opt-out in the first place, ask the user if they want to give you data. If you think users aren't gonna click yes, instead of forcing it on them ask yourself why they would say no to what you're doing. If you have no reason to be collecting data, DONT DO IT.

It's that simple.
