I'm a bit torn. I've known Tarus at #OpenNMS for years (note the OpenNMS office locations), and I'd like to work there once my non-compete is over. However, my !nagios knowledge is clearly strong and I could be an asset to that community (in as much as there is one).
The thought literally crossed my mind of having some sort of Minnesota Nagios User Group meetup. Am I fucking insane? I have more than enough going on.
Anyway...yeah, I think it'd be good to keep my nagios skills up. OpenNMS uses SNMP, WMI and NRPE, and a variety of things Nagios uses so maybe just keep those skills sharp.
Honestly, stuff not showing up on datamost is a pretty good monitoring system to see whether the cats unplugged the server, and that's the only thing I use the server for, but I guess occasionally a check_http is useful. I used it for finding out when Alinea tickets went on sale, for example. Maybe I'll set up both, because wtf, why not?
If I do say something about starting a meetup group, someone please fly here, punch me, and take the money for the flight. It will have been worth it.
