    Mastodon seems like a good place to discuss the ideas in this article, since there are a good mix of free speech absolutists and people with more nuanced views (i.e., leftists who are generally for free speech, but want certain limits of hate speech and are willing to #noplatform fascists).

      Personally, I'm uneasy about increased regulation because the state can easily weaponize those regulations against those on the left. And we see time and time against that state powers will treat literal fascists as just people exercising their free speech rights while criminalizing and shutting down left wing movements (environmental groups, in particular, have often been targeted in Canada).

      @ink_slinger This article gets one thing right: let's stop taking Nazis' protestations about free speech at face value. Free speech "absolutists" generally are not absolute at all. They want hate speech protected and marginalized groups totally silenced. I wish the "free speech" crowd would recognize that more often than it does.
