As World Watches Pyeongchang Olympics, Activists Focus Attention on Korea's Horrific Dog Meat Trade
      from Alternet
The Olympics present a unique opportunity to press South Korea to end its barbaric dog meat trade. A new generation of heroes has emerged in South Korea, and they are my friends and colleagues. Last weekend, as viewers around the world tuned in to watch skating, skiing, hockey, and other sports at the Winter Games, I waited for news from the Humane Society International rescue team working just down the road from Pyeongchang. They were there to save animals and close down a dog meat farm. I’m so proud of my team and relieved that the dogs, who would have ended up being slaughtered, now have a chance at a better life.

I doubt there's much difference between eating one animal verses another.

          > Offended by Koreans eating dog? I trust you’ve never had a bacon butty - https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2018/feb/15/korea-eating-dog-meat-animals-food-west "93% of pigs killed for meat in the UK are factory-farmed, and 60% of sows reared here are kept in metal crates just centimetres bigger than their body". pigs are highly intelligent.

@clacke Nobody, because there's a market. I'm also concerned about Halal and Kosher produce which doesn't stun the animals before slaughter.

@thatbrickster I don't know about Brickbongistan, but in Sweden halal and kosher animals need to be stunned when slaughtered. They were forced to realize that suffering is not a core component of ritual purity.

@clacke After Brexit, there are plans to add that to food labelling as the EU doesn't make it standard.
