@thatbrickster @sarcasmkid No they are not. They are set at like x% risk of y harmful thing when kept in such and such conditions. But typically the risk x will be pretty small so a lot of the time it will be fine.
And furthermore you may be keeping it in better conditions (fridge instead of cupboard, or freezer instead of fridge).
And finally with a lot of products where you can tell from how it looks or feels or smeels you are better of doing so instead of going by the date.

@ayy @sarcasmkid Can a man simply express facetious outrage? I understand why they're there but they are responsible for ~15% of wasted good food. Vinegar and water have no such dates in the EU and they plan on making our relationship with the EU have no expiry date either.
