    The thing that most people don't know about space missions is that things are pretty much always going wrong and whether your mission is a success or not depends almost entirely on how well your contingency plans and backup systems are set up.

    Like, there's a reason the Mars rovers, for example, lasted well past expected lifetime and that's because they were designed with the assumption of the universe going "fuck THESE rovers in particular".
