lb: the indicators that one is trans are so vague because any strong feelings about it just feel normal, like they're somehow thoughts of curiosity that everyone has, just others suppress or ignore them.

turns out those thoughts are actually a strong indicator that something is off, and that further exploration of gender is needed.

i wouldn't think about it so much if there weren't a need to do something about it.

of course, there's an amount of doubt that can come up around one's gender even if they are comfortable with it, but exploration is harmless, and in 99% of cases, that doubt is internalised anti-trans bullshit thanks to society's awful views on gender, or perhaps just fear that others won't accept you for it, or it will make life more difficult for you

it's good to remember that there's a lot of pressure in society to NOT be trans because society doesn't want people to be trans.

there is an unfair bias toward being cis in this society that makes a lot of trans folks doubt themselves way more than they should.

having thoughts about your gender and the possibility that it's not correct, despite society constantly telling you otherwise, is a good indicator that something is up.

like...you don't just start thinking about wanting to be another gender without a good reason, in the face of so much oppression.

how many trans folks can relate to thinking very strongly about wanting to be another gender for years, not really knowing what was going on and thinking it was an entirely normal thought process, until it became apparent that it wasn't going away, perhaps the thoughts even got more frequent/stronger until they were hard to ignore?

how many trans folks doubted themselves constantly, but exploring their gender solved a lot of their discomfort despite that?

@ctrlaltdog things like this always make me want to say, though, that it's okay for someone to question their gender and then in the end decide they're not trans after all. It's not like questioning your gender immediately locks you into being trans, and I want to make sure people don't get anxious about that.

I don't mean to invalidate your statement! I'm sure it's true that people who question their gender are significantly more likely to be trans, but they can be cis too and that's okay!
