   I realised both me and my girlfriend use a distinctly Nordic swearword ("Gudars skymning!", lit. "Gods' twilight!") quite obviously hailing back to pre-christian times, and referring to Ragnarök.
   
   Does the !fediverse have any other examples of such pre-christian/pre-islamic/pre-buddhistic expressions that are actually regularly used by you or others around you?

      @pettter Not obviously! Even in pretty heavily Christian Sweden of the 19th century, there was a revival of Aesir symbolism in art and probably also in language. The now ubiquitous "hej!" is supposed to have been reconstructed by Viking-interested student circles.
      
      Not saying you're wrong. "Gudars skymning" might very well be an ancient expression alive and kicking.
      
      But it may just as well be a 19th century meme.

         @pettter Because you are saying "gudars skymning!" rather than the more direct "Ragnarök!", my rather unsubstantiated guess is that you got it from someone who got it from ... all the way back only to Wagner 140 years ago.
